Setting the records straight
Harrods Aviation was involved in a challenging request recently – namely to re-build a complete set of aircraft records from scratch. The records were destroyed as a result of an office fire and effectively meant that all the aircraft maintenance history had been lost.
As this aircraft was on the American register, the FAA was contacted and they confirmed the process we must follow. From there the real detective work began and in true style it started with the leg work. Previous owners were contacted and any information they had was copied, our history files were checked for any references to this aircraft and the Engine and Airframe manufacturers were asked for the original build records.
Once this information had been compiled these records were compared with the components actually fitted to the aircraft. Any items that could not be confirmed were replaced and any inspections that could not be proved to have been completed were carried out. New log books were obtained and the log cards and maintenance history was rebuilt. An external auditor reviewed the rebuilt records and was very happy with the work that had been completed and accepted the new data.
This was certainly an unusual challenge but one that the Technical Services Department rose to and completed to the satisfaction of all concerned. |
